You work for a Human Rights NGO based in Australia* that specializes in issues relating to gender equality. You will be preparing a briefing paper for the Australian Foreign Minister, Marise Payne, on women’s rights in the states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (a.k.a. The GCC). The Minister will be making a diplomatic visit to the region later this year and your organisation hopes to lobby her to include discussion of women’s rights as part of her agenda.
Whilst the Minster’s visit will be focusing on trade, security, energy and other international
issues, it is your hope that if she is adequately informed of some of the issues confronting
women in the Gulf, she may be in a position to explore what role Australia could play in
encouraging further progress towards greater gender equality in the region. Your job is
therefore to produce a short paper that encapsulates the key issues and what could be done to
