Module 7 Overview
Hello again! You have a guest speaker for today (and a break from Dr. Grant’s narration).
The module for today has been prepared and is presented by Dr. Timothy Martin, the author
of the article “Divergent ontologies with converging conclusions” from Comparative
Education that you read in Week 2. I hope you enjoy his perspective on the philosophical
challenges to meta-narratives. He will be covering key post-Kuhnian philosophies including
hermeneutics, social constructivism, and post-modernism. You will continue to have some
challenging readings with Rorty entering the mix, but these are outstanding sources that we
believe will inform your thinking in preparation for the final paper, Assignment 2 (due in
Week 8).
After you’ve had a chance to watch the video link on the topic, head over to the Discussion
Boards to explore your thoughts and open the critical dialogue with your instructor and
classmates. Remember, there are no right or wrong answers to philosophical questions, but
there is an expectation that you will have an informed, well supported response with critical
analysis of your interpretation of the readings in your post and replies. These are thought-
provoking questions pivotal to your mastery of this course!
After you have completed this module you will be more than ready to write the final
assignment in which you choose a topic of interest to you and then describe how you would
approach its study from an ontological, epistemological, methodological perspective using
two different research paradigms. You have many sources to use for this upcoming
assignment in addition to the Discussion Board posts you have made that have laid the
ground work for the final paper.
