Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Chapter 11 – Gestalt Therapy states that unexpressed emotions can create blockage within your body. Energy blocks might cause individuals to experience muscle tension, shortness of breath, fatigue, or changes in appetite. The text also states it can show as:

  • Restricted voice (holding back power)
  • Keeping one’s mouth shut tightly (afraid of what might slip out)
  • Slouching
  • Looking at the ground or in the air as a way of avoiding contact with others
  • Speaking in a quick, staccato fashion
  • Being emotionally flat
  • Quivering of the mouth
  • Hot, flushed feeling
  • Shaking movements of the hands & legs
  • Dizziness

There might be other aspects of blocked energy not mentioned. Mental health advocate, Sherrie Hurd, wrote an interesting piece about energy blocks and some suggestions on how to pull free. Energy Blocks & How to Clear Them
