Using the following TWO texts: “M. Butterfly” by David Henry Hwang, and “Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic” by Alison Bechdel. Select one common theme to analyze found in both stories. (e.g gender, race, ethnicity, emasculation, East v West, etc.) As you develop your analysis, you MUST include analysis of literary elements. Support this with textual evidence from the both original stories.

Additionally the second part of this research paper, you will find 4 scholarly articles outside of the two texts listed above to support the common theme found in both stories. You will use two scholarly reviewed articles for each story, in total 4 scholarly reviewed articles supporting the literary elements used to portray the common theme.

Sources MUST be credible scholarly sources from a database that engages literary criticism specifically about the two literary texts” M. Butterfly” and “Fun Home”.

You are NOT writing a paper that delves into biography or time period or history nor are you writing a sociology or political science paper; your objective is literary analysis of the two text:.

1. Your essay MUST be a full 6 pages at minimum to pass (that is with 1-inch margins, no additional spaces, Times New Romans 12-point font, etc.); this is NOT including the works cited page.

2. Your essay MUST be MLA compliant and free of mechanical/grammatical errors.

3. You want to be sure to avoid plagiarism. (Remember that this includes “borrowing” ideas.)

4. Review the rubric; you are expected to engage in analysis (which means you do not want to summarize the texts).

Please note that last submissions cannot be accepted since it will be the end of the semester at that point.
