The narrator tells us that “History does not always tell the complete story” because there are some events that remain mysterious. Where exactly did Juan Ponce de Leon land in 1513? Where is the original site of Fort Caroline? And how accurate are the Theodor DeBry engravings of the Timucua Indians? You’ll find it helpful to take notes while watching the documentary.

Directions:

Write a post (and then reply to two colleagues) that does two things:

First

Establishes your understanding of the readings. You will do this in one to two paragraphs that explain

  • why Fort Caroline’s whereabouts aren’t known
  • the methodology archaeologists are using to locate it
  • the state of knowledge about the location of the original site of Fort Caroline

Second

In a separate paragraph, explain where you think Fort Caroline is located. What do you think about the narrator’s statement that “History does not always tell the complete story” because there are some events that remain mysterious.
