Directions: The written essay is an argumentative essay. Each student will choose a moral problem to investigate (e.g. the death penalty, abortion, etc.). Once a moral problem is chosen by a student, they will need to choose a central thesis they want to defend with regard to the moral problem they have chosen. For example, if the moral problem chosen is abortion, then one could defend any number of different theses. One could defend the thesis that“Every abortion is morally impermissible”, or the thesis that“All abortions are morally permissible”, or the thesis that “Some abortions are morally permissible”.There are of course several other theses that one could defend with regard to this moral problem. Once a thesis is chosen by a student with regard to their chosen moral problem, they will need to provide strong reasons and arguments to defend this thesis. Students should utilize a combination of outside resources (e.g. newspaper articles, academic articles, books, etc.) and their own argumentative ingenuity to defend their chosen thesis. This written essay should contain an introduction, in which the student briefly explains what they will do in the essay and the moral problem that will be discussed in the essay. The written essay should also contain a conclusion, in which the student summarizes what they have done in the essay.
Required Word Count: The Written Essay should be 975-1000 words long.
The research used in the essay includes at least 2outside sources (e.g. newspaper articles, academic articles, books, etc.).
In-text citations from references are appropriately cited in MLA format.
