1. Texas Ranks

I am a proud Texan, and although I knew we had some problems, I did not expect to see our numbers and rankings so low. Based on these rankings, I believe a few areas our lawmakers should focus on are the justice system, education, health care, and the natural environment/pollution. With being the second largest state, our population is very large, therefore it is easier to get lost in these areas because they make or break a community. The three areas that are most alarming and important to me are education, health care, and the natural environment. Without education, there is no development. Based on the numbers I read from the sources, Texas does not spend a lot of money on education and many teachers have to go out of their way to provide necessities to students. I have witnessed this myself and have had multiple teachers have to come out of pocket for supplies and other things. After elementary school, I did not feel as though education was being taught correctly. Health care is a very important necessity, so it should be treated as such. However, many people can not afford it, leaving many with fewer options to take care of themselves. Natural environment is another necessity, but it seems as though the quality of air and pollution is only getting worse. I believe one of the main reasons why Texans do not vote is because of loss of faith and interest in the voting system. Many people believe that their votes do not count, but the truth is the more people who do not vote, the worse it is on citizens. Voting has an end effect, and people have stopped tuning into what representatives have to say. With this mindset, we do not get what we want from representatives and possibly allowing the wrong people to come into office.

2.Future of Texas

Areas that lawmakers should focus on more is public education, public health, and gun laws. These are some areas that affect me on a day to day basis. I believe that lawmakers should focus on making public education better. This includes schools, wages for teachers, and how to make a better communication for the kids. I believe that schools can be a safe zone for a child who is going through a rough time and I want lawmakers to have a bigger funding for our schools. In the past decades, funds for schools have doubled but since 2010, the funding has stayed the same. New resources are being made to create a fun and faster ways for students to learn. To add, teachers should have a higher wage because they teach the children that are becoming the future. I work in a school district where I hear that some teachers barely make enough for their families. Lastly, we should create better resources for teachers and staff to have a better communication with their students. With having more training for the teachers, we can have a high graduation percent. In my opinion, Texans do not vote because they do not see the importance to voting. They could also think that their vote will not make a difference for the community. We have a voice and we should use it more often. We can make a big difference for our family, community, and our state
