STRUCTURE
Introduction – introduce your story and reflect on a shift in your understanding of the
story that developed through your rereading and process work
Body – explain how you came to understand your theme and which parts of the story
helped you gain this understanding. Textual references and quotations are important and
the adoption of the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning – previously SEE) structure is
important.
Conclusion – explore the way your theme connects to your observations of another
narrative (book, story) or of the world. You may use media (movies, Netflix, etc) or news, as
well as your own experiences to make these connections. Be sure to explore how you can
recognize the similarities and differences between your chosen short story and the other
text/experience. It is advisable to make the connection to ONE other text / experience/ etc.
and explore the connection deeply rather than take a “shotgun” approach and do many.
