Self identity is a very important concept when committing a crime because the person committing the crime will be the same person in the future. Based off of Lock’s concept of enduring self, he believes that we are conscious and aware of our actions our entire life which makes up ones personal identity. The experiences a person endures in the past will shape who they are as a person in the present and future because they are complete aware and conscious of what experiences they go through. In order to prove that I was not the one who stole the Toyota at VVC I would simply be aware of my actions three weeks ago and know that I did not commit the crime. My conscious would be clear and I would be living with not troubles because I would be aware that I did not commit the crime and I would have a clean conscious. A person would be aware of their actions and If I did commit the crime my conscious would be guilty and eventually the questioning from the police would get me to come clean. This concept can be used to prove that a person is not guilty because their conscious will be clear and show no nervousness when being questioned. However, if someone is not completely aware of the crime they committed they would not be aware of their actions and their conscious would be clear and show no signs of nervousness.
