Visit one or more of the following museums and check out their online galleries. Some suggested museums are the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Louvre, the Van Gogh Museum, the British Museum, the Rijks museum.
Select two works of art that deal with the same theme but in different ways. Again, examples of themes might be: heroism, war, family, sex, motherhood, sorrow, revenge, despair, apocalypse, childhood, friendship, urbanism, nature, the future, the body etc. The two works of art can be from different cultures, times, and places, and do not have to be the same media. For example, one can be a sculpture or installation and the other a painting or photo or video.
Write five double spaced pages mla style comparing and contrasting the two works of art.
Describe each work so we can picture it, tell us about its origins, how it’s made, who made it. What is the historical and social context in which it was created. Spend about a page on each work.
On your third page, tell us about how the two works are similar.
On your fourth page tell us about how the two works differ.
Lastly, on your fifth page tell us which of the two works of art deals more successfully with the theme and why.
At the end of your paper include two images of the two works of art for my reference.
Include a brief bibliography.
