Last week was extremely busy, and with it being the holidays, we wanted to ensure that we visited with all of the patients. We had a lot of new patients whom I had never visited. We had one of the patients whom we followed up with after reporting the family to DHR the week before last. The family now has hired a sitter for the patient, who has dementia, and her husband, who has dementia as well. About two weeks ago, we found the patient soaked in urine, and when we visited the patient last week, she was well groomed, had her hair cut, and her clothes were dry. This patient had already eaten and taken her meds. The patient seems so happy. They had someone coming in to clean the carpet, and the patient son was there. He mentioned that the family decided to do Thanksgiving over at their parent’s. I thought that was a good idea for the patient and her husband to have there family spend time with them. We had a family to whom we donated a Thanksgiving meal, and they were so thankful. They really did not plan on having anything for Thanksgiving because they were unable to afford to pay for the food. That really melted my heart. We had another patient we visited, and we think she would be considered an active patient. She seemed to be weak, and she was not her normal self. She is normally really active. She was very quiet, but she did say she wasn’t in much pain. Her face was very pale. She did say that her family would be joining her for Thanksgiving, and I thought it was probably best with it possibly being the last Thanksgiving she would be able to celebrate with her becoming an active patient.
