Reflection Question: How do you feel you have grown as a professional during this term? Please describe.
This week we did our routine visits to the homes. It was pretty steady this week. We saw four new patients this week. One of the experiences we had with the new patients was they had bed bugs, so we had to put on full body suits with foot covers for the shoes not sure what you call them. This particular family DHR had to get involved bc the patient’s caregiver who is the wife, had a stroke and was unable to care for her husband due to hospitalization, and they had no dependable family around locally. DHR contacted the grandson and his girlfriend, and they have come down to help. They will be moving down permanently. Once we completed the visit with the family, we disposed of our gowns outside in the garbage. The grandson has sprayed to try to help get rid of the bed bugs, and so far, we haven’t seen any, so I think whatever he’s using to get rid of the bed bugs is working. However, the hospice cannot send a bed out for this patient until an exterminator comes out to spray, and they provide an invoice to Kindred Hospice. We have another patient who is an 84-year-old we have been trying to place in the nursing home for the 3rd time, but her husband is not cooperating by filling out the Medicaid app, and neither are their daughters, so it may be hard if they decide to place this patient later down the line bc the nursing home rearranged patients in the memory care unit to accept this patient in the husband decided at the last minute not to put his wife in the nursing home so before they do anything they husband will have to first do everything on his end before arrangements are made as far as paperwork if they decide to accept this patient bc how difficult it has been. I had a good productive week, and my field instructor thanks I am doing a good job and am heading in the right direction being a social worker. I have started doing narratives on the patients this week and its smething new and I thing im getting pretty good at it. I was offered a job with the company today but I will have to decline but I am grateful for the opportunity but I will be transitioning doing a new position with my job once I graduate and I am looking forward to my new journey!
