Troilus and Criseyde: "Midway" in the Tragedy In Geoffrey Chaucer’s poem, “Troilus and Criseyde”, the author places his focus on two
characters, Troilus who is a Prince of Troy and Criseyde who is Calchas’ daughter. Calchas flees
Troy after foreseeing its loss at war, during the period of the Trojan War between the Greeks and

Troilus is a non-believer in love thus Cupid strikes him with his arrow where he ends up
falling for Criseyde when he sees her at the temple. Pandarus, an uncle to Criseyde, lends Troilus
a hand in luring his niece into falling in love with Troilus. Both of them profess their love to each
other eventually and lay in bed together on one stormy night, all being part of the uncle’s plan to
