You be sure to incorporate ethical reasoning into your responses. Since some of you may not have yet taken our Business Ethics course, may be taking it now, or may have taken it some time ago, I’m providing everyone with an excerpt from Chapter 9 of our eText (attached) to use as a resource as you respond to the questions below (in addition to the case itself).

Question #1: Which school of thought/theory on ethical standards is relevant to the NCAA case? Please choose from the following schools of thought/theories and thoroughly explain your answer with direct references (cite) to the concepts associated with each school AND clear explanations of how those concepts apply to the case (you’ll find material on these theoretical frameworks in the Ch. 9 excerpt):

–Ethical Universalism
–Ethical Relativism
–Integrative Social Contracts Theory

Question #2: In your opinion, and based on the case and material in the Chapter 9 excerpt, are the amateurism policies of the NCAA ethical? In your response, be sure to consider and address possible objections to your response or other possible points of view. Making a strong case for your assessment of the ethicality of the NCAA’s policies requires anticipating and addressing those other perspectives.

Your response to this case should be a minimum of two pages (double-spaced) and no more than four pages and you should cite the two sources using APA style. I’d strongly advise examining the rubric for this case before beginning work on your response.

Please note that the issue of whether or not student athletes should be “paid for play” is separate from, though related to, the recent decision of the NCAA to allow students to profit from the use of their name, image, and/or likeness (as in EASports titles). You may incorporate information relevant to that decision in your paper, but it should not be the focus as we are primarily interested in the debate over paying student athletes for their play.
