The Pros and Cons of Direct and Indirect Marketing

The Pros and Cons of Direct and Indirect Marketing

Not all mobile sites are the same (Professor)

The advancement of technology in the mobile world has also created advancements in the look and feel of apps.  However, there is still some variance in the mobile apps.  The range of mobile apps are:

Website available on smartphone – we see less and less of this, but I still see this on occasion

Mobile-enabled – the company has made an attempt to make its site more focused to a smartphone with more app functionality

Fully mobile – this is the app we see mostly.  The app is build specifically for smartphone in display and information.  Greater functionality.

The interesting thing I have seen is that web sites seem to look more and more like mobile apps.  I am not sure why but it is definitely a trend.

#7 What is the next big thing for online shopping? (Professor)

As we are all aware, the internet has exploded with opportunities for shoppers, researchers, and everyone really.  The internet has certainly impacted marketing.

So, for the class:

What do you feel will be the next big thing for online shopping for marketing and the consumer?  Take some time to think about this.  I am asking for the next big thing, not just better of what we have today.

#8a  Pros and Cons of Direct and Indirect Marketing (Student)

The reason why we no longer see many promotions sent to our house mail is because companies now know that today with the great technological advances the best way to promote their products is through the internet. Today most people use the Internet, to be more specific the population spends most of the time connected to social networks and their emails. What companies do now is pay for ads on different websites where people, even if they do not want to or look for promotion, find it. In other words, internet marketing has been formed in the fastest and most obvious way to promote the products and in some cases these aggressive marketing strategies make the information reach the homes of many people.

#8b Re: Pros and Cons of Direct and Indirect Marketing (Professor response to 8a)

However, about three years ago my wife and I saw an interesting trend.  For several years, we would get a lot of specialty catalogs sent to our home before and during the holiday shopping season.  Then about 6 years ago we almost received none.  That lasted about three years, and now we get as many catalogs as before.

There is one big difference – the catalogs are promotion tools for shopping online.  In the past you could order online or send in your order.  Now it is almost solely order online. I never thought we would see the catalogs come back.
