nstructions: You should have at least two posts to receive 20 points for this discussion (20 possible points for the first post; 10 for the second; see rubric below). One of the posts has to answer the question; the second should be a comment about one of the posts made by one of your classmates. Make sure that your second post is respectful and thoughtful. All posts have to be turned in on time to receive full credit.

First post:

20 possible points divided as follows:

5 points: For choosing the right concept or theory

15 points: For your explanation
Chapter 1 is about history and theory. We will come back to Chapter 1 several times in this class, so you need to know it pretty well. I uploaded some of my lectures to Files to help you answer these questions. Be aware that there are two more theories in my lectures and you can use them to answer question 1.

Here are two videos that will help you understand these topics:

Question:

Please answer the questions below:

1) Let’s assume that you are a sociologist who wants to understand an issue of sociological significance. This means, that it’s not about animals because we are not biologist; it’s not about stars because we are not astronomers; it’s not about the mind because we are not psychologist; etc. For example, you want to study the Covid-19 pandemic from a sociological perspective. But you can choose your own topic (for example, racial or ethnic issues, gender issues, crime, food, fashion, rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court, the war in Ukraine, etc. ). It’s OK if you don’t want to talk about the pandemic.

Here is the real question: Use one of the theoretical perspectives in sociology to explain any aspect of the Covid-19 pandemic (pp. 16-34). This is what you need to do: First, name the perspective and explain it in your own words, making sure that you state at least one of its assumptions. Then, tell us what you can learn about the pandemic using this perspective. Finally, tell us whether it is a microsociological or macrosociological paradigm and explain why you say so.

See the examples below about the pandemic to get ideas of what you can research. Remember that these are just examples:
