You can also write about your “home literacy” – what you remember about other people in your house reading and/or writing. How did you feel about reading? What about writing? Were there certain types of books you preferred to read?
- What do you remember about literacy in middle and high school? What kinds of books did you read for school? Describe anything you can about how you were taught in relation to reading these books or was it just assignments? How did you feel about reading content books versus literature? What kinds of writing instruction did you have if any? Was there any writing you did on your own?
- What has teaching reading been like for you in the last few years? If you are currently a teacher, what aspects of your literacy history have you brought with you into the classroom? What aspects are different? What are your perceptions of teaching reading? (If you are not currently teaching, describe any experience teaching reading (even as a parent) and your perceptions of reading instruction).
