Paper details

Journal of a parent. Students will create a journal from the viewpoint of a fictional parent whose child has been diagnosed with a specific disorder discussed in class. The journal should have a minimum of 10 daily entries and should focus on the experiences of that child and his/her family. The following questions (or any others that a student would like to address) may be considered in creating a journal- these are merely suggestions as I encourage individual creativity:
-What are the sensory and/or cognitive perceptions of the child?
-What symptoms is the child experiencing?
-How is the child treated by family, friends, and society-by-large?
-What are the main concerns or worries of the parent?
It is essential that you write from the perspective of the parent and recount any feelings/experiences that may seem relevant to the disorder. Try to think about what it would be really like to be a parent or caregiver of a child with a mental disorder. Avoid writing straightforward symptoms and treatment from a clinical perspective –instead describe them how a parent would really feel (e.g., “Just can’t believe it, what did I do wrong? If I only had been a better parent- this would never have happened” versus “ feeling guilty”). Below is a basic guideline:
●Relevant entries (relate to the topic)
●Creativity (reflects original thought)
●Insight (reflects an understanding of the disorder)
●Accuracy (realistically captures the life of the person with disorder
