Drawing from our course textbook and class discussions about: the newspaper industry, the culture of journalism, the book industry, the magazine industry, the advertising industry, the public relations industry, media economics, and media effects and cultural approaches to research, provide a critical analysis of the political communication and media coverage of a public issue.

Choose 1 public issue and use 2 specific examples of media coverage of that issue in your analysis, and apply at least 10 ideas, facts, or concepts from our readings and class discussions on the above listed topicsWhen possible, provide links directly to the 2 examples of coverage.

  3. Explain the second source (see above) and provide the citation
  4. Describe any connections/relationship you think you might find between both sources you are using (e.g., how do they relate to each other? How are they different? Do they approach the topic/concept differently?) that’s the critical process.

    1.Description: 1st stage. Paying close attention, taking notes, and researching the subject under study.

    2.Analysis: 2nd Stage. Discovering and focusing on significant patterns that emerge from the description stage.

    3.Interpretation:3rd stage. Asking and answering “what does this mean?” And “so what?” questions about one’s findings.

    4.Evaluation: 4th stage. Arriving at a judgment about whether something is good, bad, or mediocre, which involves subordinating one’s personal taste to the critical assessment resulting from the first three stages.

    5.Engagement: 5th stage. Taking some action that connects are critical perspective with our role as citizens to question our media institutions, adding our own voice to the process of shaping the cultural environment.
