Introduction
Social media is the use of web pages or applications to create virtual connections over the internet. The connections are ideally meant to share ideas, information, and files. Parties who interact on social media platforms are considered to be friends or followers. If you are a ‘friend’ or ‘follower’ on social media, it means you have direct communication and contact with each other hence you are considered to be close or acquainted. The prerequisite for using social media is an internet-enabled device and a social media account. Various social media platforms can be used to create a social media account (Friedrichsen, M., and W. Mühl-Benninghaus, Pg. 3-6).
The most famous ones include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp among others. Social Media was initially intended for informal interactions but companies have also adopted them as a communication tool. This paper aims to look at the various ways in which the use of social media affects our daily lives. Ideally, there are negative and positive effects with each having varying consequences and impacts (Friedrichsen, M., and W. Mühl-Benninghaus, Pg. 3-6). In this paper, I will affirm the statement that Social Media Use does More Harm than Good.
