In this assignment, you reflect on your own educational history and on how it aligns with and diverges from the general history of American education. You then reflect on the role you can or do play in your studentsʼ educational histories.
Directions

questions:
1. Reflect on your own educational background and on how it aligns with and diverges from the general history of American education.
2. Briefly describe your familyʼs educational background. How much of it do you know? How many generations can you go back (and forward)?
3. How does your family history align with and diverge from what you have learned about the historical events within American education generally?
4. Describe two events in the history of American public education that have relevance for your family. How did the two events affect your familyʼs education? In what ways were the effects positive, negative, or both?
5. As a teacher you become part of your studentsʼ educational histories. What influence do you hope and expect to have on your studentsʼ education?
