This assignment is the ultimate life reflection: you will write a narrative-style imaginary eulogy of another person(that you make up), or a friend of yours . Consider their achievements, their happiest or worst moments in life, or most difficult events that they will look back on for the rest of their life. This assignment will be will be equal parts nonfiction and fiction; the non-fiction elements will be where you write a true narrative about their life leading to the present and the fiction will be when you write about their (possible) future life using their input and collaboration. When writing about the future, imagine that they’ve completed school (or not), found a career(or not), and have already lived out their dream life (or not so dreamy life). You may include brief details of how pass away. Make sure to check items of their bucket list.

Checklist for a great eulogy

  • Written entirely in past tense, and in formal, polite language.
  • Demonstrates major changes in their identity across different places and times.
  • Includes epiphanies and milestones – moments that changed everything.
  • Has a sense of humor – use your wildest imagination to write about the craziest or fascinating life they’ve lived. Also has serious moments of reflection on difficult life decisions.
  • Use as much descriptive detail so the reader can use their vivid imagination .
