I need to create a 90 day plan for what I would do as a director the first 90 days. I will be supervising a legal Manager, Clinical Advocates and Peer Advocates. I will also be connecting to community partners about connecting with our organization. The communities believe in our mission. They will work to reduce arrest and incarceration of people experiencing extreme poverty, problematic substance use, or mental health concerns, and increase the accessibility of supportive services in Atlanta and Fulton County. I will be over a department of 50 people and need to show how I can make it sucessful.
I need to show how I will grow an outreach team consisting of one Clinical Advocate and one Peer Advocate. I need to show how I will grow a team consisting of a Legal Manager and Legal Intern. I need to show how I will connect with community partners that can assist with out mission and values. These community partners can be churches, hospitals (behavior health), local business and shelters,
They will assist with fostering a new approach to community safety and wellness by providing an alternative to punishing people for what they do to survive. Instead, we connect with people as people, address their basic needs, and work with them to reduce harm to themselves and their neighbors. We believe communities are safer and healthier when people have what they need to not only survive, but to thrive.
We are an active member of the communities we serve in order to collaboratively develop new approaches to community safety and wellness. We participate in neighborhood meetings, problem-solve with local businesses, and conduct street-based outreach and relationship-building with community members surviving on the streets or in the informal economy.
We advocate for policies that increase access to housing and services, and reduce the criminalization of poverty, marginalization, and behavioral health concerns. While individuals may be diverted out of the criminal legal system, there must be appropriate crisis response, housing, and recovery services to address the challenges our communities face.
We work closely with service and advocacy organizations to identify opportunities for increasing access to support services, reducing legal barriers, and changing punitive policies. Our team has worked closely with other Taskforce members to develop recommendations to close the city jail and convert city ordinance violations to civil offenses.
