Perform a preliminary investigation that looks at the existing system as well as the proposed system – follow each of the steps in Chapter 2. This investigation should include a thorough documentation of scope and constraints for the new system.

Determine feasibility of the project. All four types of feasibility discussed in the textbook should be investigated. Note: the feasibility evaluation is actually Step 5 of the preliminary investigation (see page 61). It is broken out into its own item here to stress its importance and the fact that the analysis should be thorough.
