Upon reviewing Jane’s Psychological Evaluation, I found that she has displayed various unacceptable behaviors in school which are affecting her academically. The evaluation noted; Jane shows explosive behaviors, school related maladjustment, mood swings, resentful and impulsive, social isolation, low-self-esteem and depression. This evaluation determined that Jane is suffering from Depression and Anxiety. Although, more research is necessary.

The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory in Adolescent (MMPI-A) psychiatric patients is typically used for patients ranging from ages 14-18 years. The test consists of 478 true or false questions with an estimated one-hour completion time. The MMPI-A-RF (revised form) pertains to the same age group, has 241 true or false questions and has an estimated half hour completion time (Stokes, et. al., 2018).

There are various questions that come to mind regarding ethical considerations. For example; Is it acceptable for a school counselor to administer behavioral testing? Are the results of the assessment subject to mandated reporting? If so, are the patients/students, confidentiality and privacy rights going to be violated? Will the test feedback be clarified and addressed to the child? Do the parents need to be present for testing?

In reading this weeks assigned readings I found children often have issues with identifying themselves. This can result in behavioral issues. Often children become confused about their identity and are not as far along the developmental pathway as other adolescents. This can result in social issues and self-isolation (Erikson, 1968). Due to this information and the need for additional research I recommend that the Behavior Assessment System for Children-2 (BASC-2) be used as a means of additional evaluation. The BASC-2 can be used in assessing individuals ages 2-21. The BASC-2 helps to identify the test takers feelings and emotions as well as background information (Swart, 2005). Together this data can help to understand individual behaviors and thus address behavioral issues.

After reviewing Jane’s psychological evaluation, I believe it is important to take into consideration what is going on in Jane’s life to make her feel certain ways and have these behavioral outburst. Although, this type of behavior cannot be accepted especially in school, it is important as an adult and caregiver for Jane that options for her education experiences and behavioral experiences are resolved. Jane stated that many of her outbursts come from being bullied in school, so in addition to having this psychological evaluation, it would be beneficial for Jane to meet with the school counselor at least three times a week to discuss this emotional and possibly physical bullying that Jane may be experiencing. In addition to this treatment plan, I believe it would be helpful for Jane to have her teachers take on a positive role when it comes to the issue underlying this bullying which is causing some of the behavioral problems. After having the psychological evaluation and continuing treatment with the psychologist it would be helpful to also have Jane and her parents go to group therapy together to resolve any issues inside and outside of the home. I believe that with this assessment for Jane’s personality it is reliable and valid, but there needs to be more information sought out regarding Jane’s behavior as well as her personality. A treatment plan is helpful to have in place, but until some issues are resolved with the bullying, treatment would not help until the bullying is dissolved. This is where it would be helpful for the counselors, psychologist, school teachers, peers and medical team would be needed to help fix this issue that Jane is dealing with. Different areas should be added to help Jane’s situation, not just the evaluation of what is going on and how she is feeling but also the involvement of her school system to help with this so she can strive with her education and succeed in this path of her life as well as emotionally.
