Identify the different earth spheres and how they overlap and affect one another.

“The Human Denominator Assignment
As we learn about how the earth works, we learn to identify the different earth spheres and how they overlap and affect one another. An understanding of the Earth’s systems and spheres takes practice. More importantly, we can see the “Domino Effect” of the spheres as they interact with one another. We have learned that while endogenic processes are separate from the exogenic process, the lithosphere affects the atmosphere which affects the hydrosphere and the biosphere. Now, we can reverse the situation and consider how the biosphere, you and I, affect the Earth.

Part A: For your assignment, write out a discussion as if I am there with you. Describe your surroundings: the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere. Remember, descriptions are non-arguably statements. How do different spheres interact with one another? Make many observations! Then, interpret your descriptions. What is or would be the effect of the interactions? How do humans play a role in the environment you are analyzing?

Part B: Find an event in the news, newspaper, credible Internet source, magazine, or journal where humans have impacted the spheres of the earth. Explain in your own words what happened. Then, connect the event to how it has or will affect the spheres of the Earth. Make the “Domino Effect” connection.”
