Case Study on EMTs On and off duty

Course Project Case Study

It has been a weekend off from work, and you are finally a little rested. You feel as though you are getting somewhere with the turnaround of the company, and you are looking forward to the next week’s work. When you walk into your office Monday morning, you once again find a slew of post-it notes on your computer monitor.

The first note reads, “Just wanted to let you know I got a DUI over the weekend. My lawyer is handling it, so no worries,” signed Jim.

Jim is an 8-year paramedic, known for partying but a great medic nonetheless; in fact, he saved your grandmother’s life a few years back before you moved here when she had a stroke. He is on shift today.

The second note reads, “Need to talk, saw ABC ambulance charge ALS rates for care on a BLS patient we transferred to them,” signed Mary.

Mary is one of the full-time supervisors.

The third note reads, “I was on scene yesterday and Joe B. was there. He was off-duty, but I could not help but notice he had items with our logo on it that he was taking out of his own jump kit. Are we issuing items for personal use now? If so, how can I get some?” signed Kyle.

Kyle is a 5-year EMT who works part-time. He is a pretty reliable guy and has never had an issue with coworkers or administration.

Keeping in mind the many issues of ethics and morals, and the understanding that the law may be involved in these, write an essay on how you would handle the authors of these three post-it notes. Make sure to include the ethical considerations in each case to illustrate how ethics and morals can affect an organization as well as personal goal development.

Your paper should be at least two pages in length. You are required to use at least two references, one of which may be the textbook, and the other from peer-reviewed, academic, or government publications. You are expected to use correct APA style formatting for references and citations. The title and reference pages do not count toward the minimum page length requirement.
