Death penalty in the United States

Research and write a paper with evidence to support your position on the death
penalty in the United States. In this paper, be sure to include the history of the
death penalty and thoroughly debate its effectiveness, or lack thereof. Discuss
your viewpoint on those sentenced to die who have been found innocent in some
cases many years later and analyze why certain states have abolished the death
penalty.

o Your research paper should be 5 to 7 pages (1250 to 1925 words) and should
cover the directives already given and follow accepted research approaches and
citation format (APA).
o Your paper should be organized, coherent, unified, and well developed.
o Your paper should be free of spelling and grammatical errors and convey your
understanding of the readings and concepts.
o Base your research paper on at least four different research sources, which must
be listed in the concluding bibliography list. Use an even mix of hardcopy and
online sources because there is a definite qualitative difference between the two
types.
o As much as possible, avoid using the textbook as “research,” except when
absolutely necessary for background information.
o Be sure to document all contentions and “facts” mentioned in an academically
acceptable manner. (See Writing Resources below.)
o Encyclopedias—especially Wikipedia—and dictionaries are unacceptable
sources.
