Specialized Courts Specialized courts are different from the traditional courts in that they typically focus on a certain type of offense or offender. In these types of courts, the judge works as part of a team to address the offense or offender. The judge and team attempt to meet two goals. The first is to manage the case, which includes processing the case and reducing the time to disposition. The second is to use the court to reduce the likelihood that the offender would reoffend, which is often called recidivism, through therapeutic programs, which seek to address the underlying causes for criminal behavior.
