Analyze an argument that is in Sandel’s Justice. The book is full of arguments of various kinds – usually offered as examples of arguments

Option 2 – Analyze an argument that is in Sandel’s Justice.
The book is full of arguments of various kinds – usually offered as examples of arguments in favor of some moral theory, or in favor of some sub-point in one of the moral theories. Alternatively, there are many arguments in Justice that work as objections to such theories, or even as replies to these
objections.
You will need to do the following:
(1) Give the general context of the whole book Justice.
(2) Give the more specific context of which theory the argument is related to.
(3) Give the further context of whether it’s an argument in favor, or against that moral theory; or
alternatively, if it’s a reply to an argument or to an objection. In other words, say what the
argument is attempting to “do”. (1-3 are merely for context and will be fairly brief. So not give a
book summary of Sandel.)
(4) Say what type of argument it is

(5) Give your reconstruction of the argument itself, in premise/conclusion form, with the conclusion
last. In other words, identify the premises and the conclusion. You must pull out and identify
the specific claims the argument is using as premises and conclusion. You may not just quote a
paragraph or two.
(6) Then do your best to evaluate the argument, using the evaluative criteria we have studied in this
class. Use general criteria that apply to any argument, and, use criteria that apply to the specific
type of argument you are discussing.
(7) Make sure you note where in Sandel the argument occurs. Do this using APA style in-text
citations like this (Sandel 124).
(8) Write your essay as if you were writing it for someone that has not taken this class. And be as
clear as you would need to be for that person to understand how the argument works.
