Students should apply the class learnings to date to real world examples that demonstrate mastery of the topics covered. Students will:
- Research a number of sport brands (teams, leagues, associations, sports tech, etc.)
- Locate one that is currently having difficulty relating to fans
- Locate the problems with this brand’s fan engagement strategy. Two questions to get you started:
- What aspects of sport fandom are they missing out on?
- Why isn’t their brand resonating with sports fans?
- Presentations should include, at a minimum:
- A brief recap of the problems identified – 1 slide
- What the brand has done well on this front – 1 slide
- A list of 3-5 recommendations (5+ slides) outlining what the brand should do in the future to address the identified issue in this new sports environment. These should be specific and actionable. Build out recommendations that include suggested collaborations (with whom and why), new technologies that should be implemented (with whom and why), hiring brand ambassadors (who makes the most sense and why), developing marketing campaigns and promotions, which together provide a clear path forward to address the issues. Citations must be used to support the theories, frameworks, and recommendations.
