2.Please take the time to read and watch the video on our class’s homepage this week under the section, This Week’s Topic. Our featured artist this week Caledonia Curry, who goes by the street name, Swoon, discusses how art can be used for therapy. While Swoon creates street art, murals, installations, and sculpture, I would like to focus on her street art this week. Even though her art is extremely personal (she has used art to heal from a traumatic childhood with parents who were addicted to heroin) people passing by her artwork can relate to it because we all have feelings of hopelessness, despair, joy, confusion, elation, desire etc… Watch the video below to listen to Swoon discuss the role art has played in her healing process.
I would like you to think about your own life and the community where you live. Think of a topic that you believe needs to be addressed in your community and then design a mural that conveys that message. You do not have to draw the mural (but we would LOVE it is you wanted to include a sketch and upload it to the forum!) but you need to describe what would be depicted in your mural with great detail!!! What figures, forums, and shapes would be included? How would they be arranged? What materials and techniques would be used to create your mural? Spray paint? Posters that are pasted? etc… What are the colors?
Find a wall in your community and take a picture of the wall and upload it to your forum post so we can envision where this mural will be.
You must answer the following questions in your post using a minimum of 300 words.
1. What is the name of your mural?
2. What is the topic of your mural? Why do you think that topic would be appropriate for your community?
3. Provide an indepth description of your mural. (sketches would be loved but are not mandatory)
3.Art history is full of wildly talented females artists who didn’t receive the lasting fame of their male counterparts. These women were often famous in their day and even ran important studios with prestigious patronage. For this assignment we will be listening episodes of the Podcast, Art Curious that focus on different female artists that you probably have never heard of but that you should know!!!
Please select one of the following artists and listen to the podcast. Click on the link associated with the artist of your choice and the scroll down the page until you see this streaming device and click on it to listen to the episode. You can also listen to the Art Curious podcast on your phone while working out, running, walking, biking etc… You can download the episode on your phone or find the podcast on I-tunes.
After you have listened to the podcast please write short essay 350-500 words about your artist that includes the following information:
1. The artist’s name, dates, and artistic period or movement that they are associated with.
2. Give a short biography of the artist. Be sure to include the country/countries that they are associated with. Did they have a formal art education? Where they accepted as professional artists in their lifetime? Did they have any interesting life experiences that affected their art?
3. What kind of art did they create? What type of subject matter did they use in their work? Was the work realistic, abstract? Non-representational?
4. Include at least one example of the artist’s work by name and discuss how it it representative of the artist’s style.
When you have finished your essay, you will upload the file to the assignment as a pdf file or Word.doc.
